Capes and Crowns
Our project AVA team would like to thank the Edwardsville community for such a successful event benefiting at-risk children and families not only in the Edwardsville community, but other communities across the country. On Saturday, February 14th 2015, project AVA, partnering with Charming Events St. Louis, held a Capes and Crowns pancake breakfast at the Moose Lodge in Edwardsville, IL. We held two separate shows. This wasn’t your ordinary pancake breakfast; we had very special visitors on hand. Queen Elsa and Princess Anna made the trip all the way from Arendelle, escorted by Kristof. Snow White and Belle made their debut at the event as well. Captain America, Spiderman, Batgirl, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Leonardo, also took time out of their busy days of fighting crime, to come meet with our little ones. Our honored guests met with the children, signed autographs, sang together in a sing along, and rocked out to a dance party!
We also had the talented Dr. Dan the Pancake Man on hand taking special pancake requests from the children. Souper Photography was there taking photos of the children and their favorite characters so they could leave that day with memories in hand! It was simply amazing!
project AVA has so many individuals, businesses, and organizations to thank who all pulled together to make this such a success. It takes a very special community to pull something off like this and turn it into such a huge success. It was a very humbling watching the children have such a great time, AND knowing that funds were being generated to help other children; at-risk children and their families.
Even leading up to the event we received donations of utensils, napkins, paper plates, paper towel, cups, juice, sausage, you name it, our donors came through. Our local community also donated silent auction items from local businesses, independent consultants, and individuals who just felt it in their heart to contribute an item to be auctioned.
The day of the event the volunteers came from many different places. We had over 40 volunteers who wore project AVA t-shirts that were generously donated by Big Frog Custom T-Shirts. Some volunteers were close friends; others we’d never met before. Some came to us through the local Secret Samartians FaceBook group; others were local high school students. Students from both Edwardsville and Collinsville were there to serve pancakes, sausage and juice to our guests. Some of these students were there with the Collinsville High School National Honor Society, some were there with the Edwardsville High School Interact club, and some simply came because they wanted to help.
The event had A LOT of moving parts but thanks to all of our volunteers we were able to make it a manageable feat with an amazing outcome….we thank each and every contributor, donor, volunteer, and guest from the bottom of our hearts. We can’t do things like this alone.
And now for the best part….We are happy to report that through EVERYBODY’S effort at the Capes and Crowns event on February 14th, 2015, we were able to raise, $5,827 that will go directly to at-risk children and families.
Thank you, Edwardsville and surrounding communities! You have helped make a huge difference in the lives of at-risk children and families!
